This Halloween Buffalo Chicken Dip, affectionately called Booffalo Dip, is a spooky twist on a classic crowd-pleaser. Creamy, spicy buffalo chicken layered with rich cream cheese and ranch, topped with ghost-shaped mozzarella slices for a festive touch. Baked until bubbly and finished with edible writing gel to create playful ghost faces, this dip is perfect for parties and Halloween celebrations.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb chicken breast, shredded
  • 16 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1-2 cup buffalo sauce (adjust based on spice preference)
  • ¼ cup ranch dressing
  • ½ lb mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • 1 tube black writing gel (edible)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit to prepare for baking the dip.
  2. Coat Chicken: In a large plastic bag, combine the shredded chicken breast and buffalo sauce. Shake or mix thoroughly until all the chicken is evenly coated with the sauce.
  3. Prepare Base Layer: Spread the softened cream cheese evenly on the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish to create a creamy base for the dip.
  4. Add Chicken Layer: Spread the buffalo chicken mixture in a single layer on top of the cream cheese base, ensuring even coverage.
  5. Add Ranch Topping: Pour the ranch dressing over the buffalo chicken layer without stirring it in, to keep the distinct flavor layers intact.
  6. Create Ghost Shapes: Use a cookie cutter to cut ghost shapes out of the mozzarella cheese slices, creating festive decorations for the dip.
  7. Top with Cheese Ghosts: Carefully arrange the mozzarella ghost shapes on top of the buffalo chicken mixture, making sure they don’t overlap to allow even melting and decoration.
  8. Bake the Dip: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and slightly golden.
  9. Decorate Ghosts: Remove the dip from the oven and use the black edible writing gel to draw eyes and mouths on all the ghost shapes for a fun and spooky appearance.
  10. Serve: Serve the dip warm with an assortment of chips, bread, crackers, or fresh veggies for dipping.

Notes

  • Adjust the amount of buffalo sauce based on your preferred spice level.
  • Use a sturdy cookie cutter for clean ghost shapes from the mozzarella slices to enhance presentation.
  • The dip is best served warm, but can be reheated in the oven at 350°F for 10 minutes if needed.
  • For a milder version, use less buffalo sauce or substitute with a mild wing sauce.
  • Substitute ranch dressing with blue cheese dressing if preferred for a different flavor profile.
