Ingredients
Tea Base
Handful of butterfly blue pea flowers
1 cup boiling water
Sweetener
1 cup brown sugar (or natural sweetener)
Additional Liquids and Flavoring
2 cups room temperature filtered water
Juice of 1-2 lemons
Ice for serving
Instructions
Steep the Pea Flowers: Boil 1 cup of water in a pot, then add the butterfly pea flowers. Allow them to steep for 5 minutes until the water turns a deep blue color. Strain the tea to remove the flowers.
Dissolve Sweetener: While the tea is still warm, dissolve the brown sugar thoroughly in the blue pea flower tea. Stir well to ensure no sugar granules remain.
Mix with Water: Add 2 cups of room temperature filtered water to the sweetened blue tea to dilute the flavor to a refreshing level. Optionally, you can add a drop of lavender extract to enhance the aroma and taste.
Prepare to Serve: Fill glasses with ice cubes to chill the drink.
Serve and Watch the Magic: Pour the blue lemonade over the ice in each glass, then add freshly squeezed lemon juice. Observe as the drink magically changes from blue to a vibrant purple-pink due to the pH change.
