Thai Basil Beef Rolls combine savory ground beef infused with soy and hoisin sauces, fresh basil leaves, and crisp vegetables wrapped in delicate rice paper. These rolls offer a perfect balance of tender, flavorful meat and refreshing freshness in every bite, making them an ideal appetizer or light meal inspired by vibrant Thai flavors.

Ingredients

Meat Mixture

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce

Vegetables & Herbs

  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • 1/2 cup chopped bell peppers
  • Fresh basil leaves (about 1 cup)

Wrapper

  • Rice paper wrappers (about 12 sheets)

Instructions

  1. Cook the Beef: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef thoroughly, breaking it apart as it cooks. Add the soy sauce and hoisin sauce, stirring well to combine. Continue cooking until the beef is fully cooked and the sauces are absorbed.
  2. Add Vegetables: Stir in the shredded carrots and chopped bell peppers into the beef mixture. Cook for an additional 3-5 minutes until the vegetables are tender but still retain a slight crunch.
  3. Soften Rice Paper: Fill a large shallow dish with warm water. Dip one rice paper wrapper into the water briefly, about 10-15 seconds, until it becomes soft and pliable but not too soggy.
  4. Assemble the Rolls: Place the softened rice paper onto a clean surface. Add 2-3 tablespoons of the beef and vegetable mixture in the center, top with a few fresh basil leaves. Fold the sides over and roll tightly to encase the filling.
  5. Serve: Repeat the softening and filling process with the remaining rice papers and beef mixture. Serve the rolls fresh as a light appetizer or snack with dipping sauces of your choice, such as sweet chili or peanut sauce.

Notes

  • Use lean ground beef to keep the rolls from being too greasy.
  • Do not over-soak the rice paper wrappers, as they can become too fragile to roll properly.
  • You can substitute hoisin sauce with oyster sauce for a slightly different flavor profile.
  • Serve immediately for the freshest texture; rice paper can harden and lose its pliability if left too long.
  • For added freshness, include thin slices of cucumber or fresh mint leaves inside the rolls.
