Delightfully flaky and savory, Spinach Feta Puffs feature a vibrant filling of fresh spinach, tangy feta, and creamy cheese all wrapped in golden, buttery puff pastry. Perfect as a snack, appetizer, or light meal, these puffs are easy to prepare and bake to crisp perfection in just 20 minutes.

Ingredients

Filling

  • 1 cup fresh spinach, chopped (or 1/2 cup frozen spinach, thawed and drained)
  • 1/2 cup feta cheese, crumbled
  • 1/4 cup cream cheese, softened
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: 1/4 tsp garlic powder

Pastry

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare baking sheet: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and facilitate even baking.
  2. Make the filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the chopped spinach, crumbled feta, softened cream cheese, salt, pepper, and optionally garlic powder, mixing well until evenly incorporated.
  3. Prepare the pastry: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet gently to smooth it, then cut into 3-inch squares using a knife or pastry cutter.
  4. Fill the pastries: Place a spoonful of the spinach and cheese mixture into the center of each square, ensuring not to overfill to maintain shape during baking.
  5. Form the puffs: Fold the corners of each pastry square over the filling to form a sealed pocket, pressing the edges firmly with a fork to seal.
  6. Egg wash and bake: Brush the top of each puff with the beaten egg to achieve a golden, glossy finish. Arrange on the baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until puffed and golden brown.
  7. Serve: Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving warm for best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • You can substitute frozen spinach with fresh, ensuring to squeeze out excess moisture to avoid soggy puffs.
  • Adding garlic powder is optional but enhances flavor; fresh minced garlic can be used instead for a stronger taste.
  • These puffs can be frozen uncooked; bake directly from frozen, adding a few extra minutes to the baking time.
  • For a vegan version, replace feta and cream cheese with plant-based cheese alternatives and use a plant-based milk wash instead of egg.
